1. Our Commitment
BrailleDocs is built for the braille community. Accessibility is not an afterthought — it is core to our mission. We strive to make our tool usable by everyone, including people who are blind or have low vision.
We recognize that our users include teachers of the visually impaired, braille transcribers, and accessibility professionals who depend on assistive technology in their daily work. We are committed to meeting their needs.
2. Conformance Status
BrailleDocs is partially conformant with WCAG 2.1 Level AA. "Partially conformant" means that some parts of the content may not fully conform to all success criteria. We are actively working to improve conformance.
3. Accessibility Features
BrailleDocs includes the following accessibility features:
- Skip-to-content link on every page
- Semantic HTML and proper heading hierarchy
- ARIA labels and live regions for dynamic content
- Full keyboard navigation
- Dark mode with system preference detection
- High contrast mode for low vision users
- Adjustable base font size (14px–24px)
- Chord-based braille input for efficient data entry
- Screen reader announcements for translation status and errors
- Visible focus indicators
- No auto-playing media or animations
4. Known Limitations
We believe in being transparent about the current limitations of our application:
- Visual braille display requires sighted interaction; audio and tactile alternatives are not yet available.
- Complex split-panel editor interactions may be challenging with screen readers.
- PDF parsing quality depends on the structure of the source document. Scanned or image-based PDFs may produce poor results.
- Some error messages may not be announced to screen readers in all contexts.
5. Assistive Technology Testing
BrailleDocs has been tested with NVDA on Windows and VoiceOver on macOS. We welcome reports of issues encountered with other assistive technologies, including JAWS, TalkBack, and braille display software.
6. Feedback
We take accessibility feedback seriously. If you encounter any barriers while using BrailleDocs, please let us know so we can address them.
You can reach us at support@newhaptics.com or use the in-app Feedback button available on every page.
We aim to respond to accessibility feedback within 5 business days.
7. Technical Standards
BrailleDocs aims to conform to the following accessibility standards:
- WCAG 2.1 Level AA — the international standard for web accessibility
- Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act — U.S. federal accessibility requirements for electronic and information technology
- EN 301 549 — the European accessibility standard for ICT products and services
