These Terms of Service constitute a legally binding agreement between you and NewHaptics, the operator of BrailleDocs.
2. Description of Service
BrailleDocs is a free, web-based braille translation tool. The service uses the liblouis open-source braille translation library to convert documents into braille for educational and professional use.
The service supports multiple document formats, braille codes, and export options. It is designed for teachers of the visually impaired, braille transcribers, and other braille professionals.
3. Accounts
To access certain features of BrailleDocs, you may need to create an account. When creating an account, you agree to:
- Provide accurate, current, and complete information
- Maintain only one account per person

You are responsible for all activity that occurs under your account. NewHaptics is not liable for any loss or damage arising from your failure to maintain the security of your account credentials.

You retain full ownership of all content you upload to BrailleDocs and all translations generated from that content. NewHaptics claims no intellectual property rights over your documents, translations, or any other content you create or process through the service.
By using the service, you grant NewHaptics a limited, non-exclusive license to process your content solely for the purpose of providing the service to you. This includes translating, formatting, and storing your documents as directed by your use of the application. This license terminates when you delete your content or your account.
You represent and warrant that you have the right to upload and process any content you submit to BrailleDocs, and that doing so does not violate any third-party rights.

6. Braille Translation Accuracy Disclaimer
Important: Please Read Carefully
BrailleDocs uses the liblouis open-source braille translation library to generate braille output. While liblouis is widely used and actively maintained, automated braille translation may produce errors, omissions, or inaccuracies.
All braille output generated by BrailleDocs must be reviewed by a qualified braille transcriber before use. This is especially critical for educational materials, official documents, and any content intended for end users who rely on braille.
BrailleDocs is a tool to assist with braille production. It is not a substitute for professional human review and proofreading.
NewHaptics is not liable for any errors, omissions, or inaccuracies in braille translations produced by the service, nor for any damages or consequences arising from reliance on unreviewed braille output.
7. Service Availability
BrailleDocs is provided on a best-effort basis. We strive to maintain high availability but do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free operation.
We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue the service (or any part thereof) at any time, with or without notice. NewHaptics shall not be liable to you or any third party for any modification, suspension, or discontinuation of the service.
8. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, NewHaptics and its officers, directors, employees, and agents shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including but not limited to loss of profits, data, use, or goodwill, arising out of or in connection with your use of the service.
BrailleDocs is a free service. In no event shall the total liability of NewHaptics for all claims arising from or related to the service exceed zero dollars ($0 USD).
9. Disclaimer of Warranties
The service is provided “as is” and “as available” without warranties of any kind, whether express, implied, statutory, or otherwise. To the fullest extent permitted by law, NewHaptics disclaims all warranties, including but not limited to implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, and accuracy.
Without limiting the foregoing, NewHaptics makes no warranty that: (a) the service will meet your requirements; (b) the service will be uninterrupted, timely, secure, or error-free; (c) the braille translations produced will be accurate, complete, or free of errors; or (d) any defects in the service will be corrected.
10. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless NewHaptics, its officers, directors, employees, agents, and affiliates from and against any and all claims, liabilities, damages, losses, costs, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising out of or related to: (a) your use of the service; (b) your violation of these Terms of Service; (c) your violation of any rights of another party, including any intellectual property rights; or (d) any content you upload or process through the service.
11. Termination
You may terminate your account at any time by deleting it through your account settings. Upon deletion, your account data and stored documents will be permanently removed from our systems in accordance with our data retention policy.
We may terminate or suspend your account and access to the service immediately, without prior notice or liability, if you breach these Terms of Service. Upon termination, your right to use the service ceases immediately.
Sections 4, 6, 8, 9, 10, and 12 of these Terms shall survive any termination of your account or these Terms of Service.
12. Governing Law
These Terms of Service shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of Ohio, United States, without regard to its conflict of law provisions.
Any disputes arising out of or related to these Terms or the service shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the state and federal courts located in the State of Ohio.

We reserve the right to modify these Terms of Service at any time. When we make changes, we will update the “Last updated” date at the top of this page.
Your continued use of BrailleDocs after any changes to these Terms constitutes your acceptance of the revised Terms. If you do not agree to the updated Terms, you should discontinue your use of the service.
